Vitamin E or D-alpha tocopherol is an oil soluble vitamin. Its
natural sources are soya beans, wheat germ, sprouting seeds, dark
green vegetables, eggs, nuts and vegetable oils. Vitamin E main
functions are antioxidant with protective properties on cells. Its
role in curing impotence is not yet proven. Its benefits to heart
and circulatory problems, as well as injury healing are more firmly
based. Research is being carried out on this vitamin in connection
with varicose veins, phlebitis, menstrual and menopausal problems.
In creams vitamin E may help to heal stretch marks and scars, but
long term regular application is essential. Internal use is also
recommended to complement external preparations. The main deficiency
symptoms are sexual problems including impotency in men. Infertility
and miscarriages in women are in part caused by vitamin E deficiency.
Heart disease and muscle wasting are mentioned as are poor skin
and hair condition. Lack of antioxidants like vitamin E will shorten
cell life. If people have diets high in polyunsaturates extra vitamin
E is required.
