Vitamin C
Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is water soluble. Its natural sources are
fresh fruit and vegetables, especially citrus fruits and green peppers.
Rosehips, acerola cherries and potatoes. The main functions of vitamin
C are anti-scurvy, the classic vitamin deficiency diseaes of sailers
in the middle ages. Disease resistance, building collagen and intercellular
material, wound healing and it also acts as an antioxidant and is
often formulated with other antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin
E, selenium and glutathione. Its main deficiency symptoms are bleeding
gums, poor resistance to colds, anaemia, connective tissue breakdown,
blood vessel weaknessand broken capillaries on the skin surface.
